Tamil Nadu Weather Update Today: IMD Issues Red Alert for Thiruvallur, Ranipet; Heavy Rain Likely in Chennai, Vellore, Salem

Tamil Nadu continues to witness widespread rainfall as a cyclonic circulation over the South Bay of Bengal brings unstable weather conditions across several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Thiruvallur and Ranipet, while eight districts remain under orange alert, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Tirupattur.

• Red Alert (Extreme Danger): Thiruvallur, Ranipet
• Orange Alert (High Danger): Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Salem, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur
• Expected Weather: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning
• Wind Speed:

North Tamil Nadu coast–Puducherry–South Andhra Pradesh: 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph

South Tamil Nadu coast–Gulf of Mannar–Comorin area: 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph

• IMD Advisory: Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea for the next two days due to rough conditions.

The IMD said, “The sky condition is likely to remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.”

Similar conditions are expected to persist on Thursday, with continued rainfall likely along Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts, particularly over the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin region.
